Food Manufacturers increase Exports

There may be growing concerns about Britain’s economy but the country’s food and drink manufacturers are doing their best to boost exports.

Figures from the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) revealed that UK exports rose by £10.2 billion, or 8.5 per cent, during a record first half. Whisky, salmon and beer were the most popular exports and the top three export destinations remained Ireland, France and the United States.

The FDF said that exports to the EU grew at a faster rate than those to other markets, raising the share of sales to the continent to 61.2 per cent.

Outside the EU the top market for UK food and drink was the US, which imported nearly £92 million worth of products, up from £87.8 million at this time last year. Ian Wright, of the FDF, said: “It is great to see such strong growth in our exports to EU member states.”
