Lidl to create 400 new jobs in the UK

A new Lidl regional distribution centre in Birmingham, that will service 56 stores as part of major expansion in West Midlands, has opened its 11th and largest regional distribution centre (RDC) as part of its £1.5 billion expansion in the UK.

The new 40,500 m2 facility, in Birmingham, is equivalent to the size of 10 football pitches.

It is set to create 400 new jobs and will service 56 Lidl stores, with a further eight set to open in the next two years.

Lidl UK regional director Richard Shaw said: “The opening of our new Lidl Wednesbury warehouse marks an incredibly exciting time for the business, particularly in and around the West Midlands.

“Not only is it necessary to accommodate the scale of our existing and future operations in the area, we have been able to create significant job opportunities as a result of the new warehouse and will continue to invest in the West Midlands and beyond, as we move forward with our expansion plans."

The news comes as Lidl said it will relocate and expand its Scottish RDC to Eurocentral, with expansion also in the pipeline in Exeter, Doncaster and Bolton. A new warehouse was opened in Southampton last year.
