Unilever "on the lookout" for Peperami buyer

Unilever is understood to be on the lookout for a buyer for its Peperami snack brand as it continues to find way of sharpening its global portfolio.

The Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant has appointed investment bank UBS to help conduct the sale, just-food understands. Peperami, a spicy pork salami, is manufactured by Unilever in Germany, Mexico and the UK. In Germany it trades under the name BiFi.

A spokesperson for Unilever, however, declined to comment on the sale reports.
The consumer goods group, which has seen its non-food business grow faster than its food operations in recent years, has been gradually offloading food brands. Its last divestment was the Skippy peanut butter in January to Hormel Foods, for a consideration of around US$700m.

Last month, reports emerged it was looking for a buyer for its Wish-Bone salad dressings business in the US.
