Project Operations Manager – Interim - Shropshire - £300 a day – 6 month assignment

An interesting opportunity for an Interim Operations Manager to join a food manufacturing business and oversee a new production unit.

Although a large business, the task for the Manager will be to focus on a small business unit and particular production process that isn’t currently operational and turn it into an efficient production operation. The Capital equipment is in place, so the task will be kick start the manufacturing process to the point where the business unit is producing safe compliant products in an efficient manner.  

The Project Operations Manager (interim) will maintain approval of raw products and lead the team to gain approval for pasteurized products. We are looking for someone ideally with pasteurisation experience, from a Dairy background with good understanding of: GMP, HACCP, TACCP, Pasteurization Process, Clean In Place Systems, CIP Validations, Heat Treatment processes, microorganisms. Tasks will include:

Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of workers who process, test, grade, and pack the food products.

Produce production plans and establish and implement work methods to meet short-term and long-term production volumes.

Write SOP’s and work policies for the production process and set KPI targets.

Design and implement an Internal Audit Programme and oversee document control.

Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and monitor product quality.

Recruit, induct, and train staff to perform duties effectively in line with safety procedures and company policies.

Build a high achieving, self-sufficient production team to operate at exacting internal and customer standards.

Set up the HACCP system, translate CCP’s into factory processes, create a HACCP team to control and prevent hazards at all stages of the process.

CCP application for processing including Pasteurization, metal detection and packaging verification.

Implement a system to check the quality of the raw products before pasteurising and ensure production staff understand the pasteurising methods and running of the pasteuriser.

Work closely with the Quality and Laboratory departments on issues such as: quality of raw materials, product specification, good manufacturing and sanitation practices.

Implement all necessary Regulatory requirements including a checking system to ensure the operation remains compliant.

Foster good working relationships with senior Managers and act as a mentor to more junior colleagues.

Plan, schedule and monitor production processes to maintain consistency of products, efficiencies, and standards.

Write and present business cases for further CAPEX investment with forecasts and payback schedules.

Determine product shelf life through pasteurisation process validation and sensory trials.

This role is an interim opportunity for a period of circa 6-months. The rate is £300 per day. Based in Shropshire. Ref: 3248
