Senior Food Development Technologist – £40,000 pa to £50,000 pa - Cambridgeshire

A unique and exciting opportunity for a Senior Development Technologist to join a Global business that develops industry leading machinery and systems used to manufacture the food products we see in our leading supermarkets. The individual appointed will immerse themselves in a Technical product area that will see them develop their skillset to the level of ‘technical expert’, allowing them to confidently support customers within the Food Manufacturing sector.   

This role will involve Product Development from concept to customer handover, Process Development and the management of Customer trials within a specialist inhouse facility. There will be an opportunity to work with customers to understand the technical challenges they face with regard to Food Science and the Manufacturability of their products. The Senior Development Technologist will draw on their experience of Food Technology and Process Machinery to create project proposals that, once implemented, will fulfil the customer’s requirements.

The Senior Development Technologist will galvanise their knowledge of raw ingredients and finished products specifically within areas such as: Bakery, Biscuits, Cookies, Cereals, Pasta, Ready to Eat Snacks, Starch based Snacks, Plant Proteins, Extruded Foods, Dry Petfoods. There will be an opportunity to work with Engineering Project teams and add influence to projects that ensure new machinery being installed and commissioned can manufacture the products customers need. This will include site visits to support machinery installations and ensure installed machinery is producing standardised products. There will also be a requirement to conduct market reviews, attend trade shows and NPD workshops to stay ahead of competition on new product launches and implement innovations into manufacturing processes, working with technical teams

The jobholder will lead innovation activities such as experimenting with ingredients and manufacturing techniques and plan and co-ordinate experiments and trials using Food Extrusion techniques, referencing results for both customers and internal R&D, and writing reports with recommendations after each completed experiment/trial. Successful trials will be scaled up into full commercial specifications, enabling the business to sell new and improved machinery to food manufacturing customers. 

It is expected Applicants will be educated to Degree/HND level in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, Bioscience. They should also have a background in developing Foods and/or Machinery covering the following categories: Bakery, Biscuits, Cookies, Cereals, Pasta, Ready to Eat Snacks, Starch based Snacks, Plant Proteins, Extruded Foods, Dry Petfoods. We are also seeking individuals with an excellent understanding of Ingredient Functionality and Food Process Machinery Capability, and high level Process Development skills. 

The Salary for this role is £40,000 pa - £50,000 pa Negotiable Remuneration Package, including relocation assistance. Ref 3253
